Who I work with

I work with B2C startups and small to midsize businesses.  I’ve worked in the fintech, sexual education and wellness, health and lifestyle space, but I believe SEO strategies can be applied to anyone looking to grow and broaden their reach and impact.

I choose to work with purpose-driven businesses with missions I feel aligned on, whether that’s a sexual wellness company normalizing conversations around pleasure, a fintech brand showing people how to take charge of their financial health and future, or a lifestyle brand empowering readers to be better for themselves and others. Whatever your do-good mission is, let’s talk.

My philosophy

Meet readers where they’re at to produce quality content that actually helps people.

Together, we can use SEO to change the world for the better! Okay, so perhaps that’s a bit grandiose, but I can get your target audience what they want and need by employing my central SEO philosophy — meet user intent!

Search engine optimization strategies can be complicated, but the baseline goal of all my SEO tactics is to — you guessed it —  meet user intent. If you work with me, I’ll hammer home this point ad nauseam.

Meeting user intent is a central principle of SEO, and it’s fundamental to how I teach best practices and implement strategies. Because when you understand your customers’ psychology and serve their needs, everyone wins.  Why does this matter? Because it means you’re producing content that can actually help people. After all, that is your mission —  it’s also why user intent is at the heart of everything I do. I help you understand your users to determine the best plan of action for your business.

More frills

Behind this SEO magician, there’s  me — Sarah. I grew up in Los Angeles with a 160-pound St. Bernard who had an IMDB, because, hey! It’s Los Angeles. I went to UC Berkeley and lived in the biggest co-op in America, and lots of crazy things happened there.

I like painting, I play the banjo, I used to have bangs, and I’m not at all like Zooey Deschanel. I’m a number one Tetris player in New York. Nbd.

But my origin story really begins with a Craigslist ad.

After I graduated college, and worked for the Sundance Film Festival, I moved to Washington, D.C. to try my hand at grant writing. I didn’t know anyone in the city, so I had to get creative to make friends.

I answered a funny Craigslist ad from  “7 dudes looking to host 7 women for dinner.” Well, this particular Craigslist ad quickly went internationally viral, and thousands of women applied.

I was chosen, and became known as one of  “DC’s 7 Chosen Women.”

There were follow-up dinners for the “Chosen Women,”  hosted by other groups of 7 men. Magicians, astronauts, and fro-yo was involved.  I blogged about my experience as a “DC 7,”  and HuffPost discovered my  blogs, and later hired me as a Trends staff writer and “digital innovator” in 2013.

I moved to New York City to work in a newsroom for the very first time. I was given no direction, no team, and no manager. But I rose to the top because I have an eye for viral potential, and a knack for giving people what they want (I meet user intent!). I became one of the most-viewed HuffPost authors, earning millions of page views, and then went on to work for Ashton Kutcher’s startup. A Plus. My career in media was just beginning, and I rode the wave of social strategies all the way to search strategies. I learned most of my SEO knowledge while working in fintech.

During the pandemic, I earned my MFA at the New School in creative nonfiction. While in lockdown, I wrote a memoir about a big family secret. I’ll tell you more about that in person.

It’s been a wild ride, and I hope you join me for what’s next!
